NONPAREIL
The regular meeting of the Nonpareil '
Literary Society on last Thursday was
well attended. After the roll was called
the minutes of the previous meeting
were read and approved. The follow
ing program was rendered: Opening
address, Martin Sampson; vocal solo,
Henry Darnell; pen picture, Matilda
John; violin solo, Martin Sampson;
current events, Calvin Darnell.
The debate, ''Resolved .that the Sail
ors endure greater hardships tl an the
Soldiers." Affirmative, " Gordon Ho
bucket, A ddie Cameron, and Edward
McClellan won the decision over their
opponents, Webster Hudson, Anna Buck
and Joaquin Meadows. The judges
were Martin Sampson, Bessie Boles and
Minnie Howard.
Mr. Enright, our critic, gave a very
instructive talk in the line of literary
work. Eugene Williams was admitted
to the society.
EXCELSIOR
At the last meeting of the Excelsior
Literary Society an election of officers
was held. - -
President, Thos. McCully; Vice Presi
dent, Peter. Seltice; Secretary, Lizzie
Beaver; Treasurer, Harry Queachpalma;
Sergeant-at-arms, Amos Smoker; and
committees for different purposes are to
be appointed at the next meeting.
After the election it was decided to
challenge the Nonpareil for a series of
three debates; two out of three for victory
As the Nonpareil being adjourned when
the challenge was sent it was suggested
to hand the message to the President: so
we shall know their opinion on the mat
ter by the next meeting.
Great interest haa been shown by the
members in every meeting so we can
almost see that the Excelsior is slowly
coming to the front. We are confident,
with the material we have this year
that our society work will be a credit to
the school and an honor to the members.

The Y. W. C. A. held their meeting in
their usual place last Wednesday even
ing. The Secretary called the roll after
which the song "Jesus Savior Pilot me"
was sung. Bessie Chiloquin led in
prayer. A nother song, "Where is my
boy Tonight" was snng.
The topic for the evening was, "What
shall we give to Jesus," of which Belle
Dillstrom led. Different membersspoke
upon the subject. They then repeated
their Watchword and adjourned.
NOT AT CHEMAWA
The young ladies of the art depart
ment are acquiring great dexterity at
"rugging," but not so in handling sharp
knives. The emergency department of
the hospital is kept busy doing up cut
thumbs. Come and see the designs ma
terialize. The Arrow.
