The band did some faithful practic
ing during the week.
Several of the engineers are fixing
the furnace so they can burn coal.
Mrs Dohse is treating the mess to
radishes from the literary garden.
Phyllis and Clarence Cooper are no
out of school and enjoying their vacation.
Mrs. Mary Meicier of Grande Ronde
was a visitor at Chemawa the latter part
of last week. .
Mrs. and Miss Irene Campbell went
to Portland Friday afternoon and re
turned Saturday evening. ....
Miss Vaughn, Ceo. Dougherty, Miss
Jones and Mr. Woo Is have recently
handed in their subscriptions.
The classes have been shifting about
the different schoolrooms this week on
account of the school building.
-The rainy weather lasted from Sun
day evening the ,9th until Saturday
eveningthe 15th, raininga little each day.
Misses Luedke and Johnston began
about i o'clock in the mofiiing in order to
get breakfast at the mess last Saturday.
Joe Dillstruin is camping with Mr.
Hat t and ''his Y. M. C. A. boys east of
Turner.. The seventh grade is looking
for a mess of cattish.
Levi Sorter taught- Sunday school
class last, Sunday and he makes a very
nice teacher for he explains the lesson
to the children so they can understand
them.

Misses Lalor and Postley went out
and picked one half crate each o f
straw-berries "Monday evening.
Misses Luedke, Johnson and James
Smith went to Mr Westley's in quest of
cherries one afternoon this week.
, James Sloan left for his home at Ro
nan Mont., last Monday morning. Sever
al of the boys were down to the train to
see him off.
Misses Bre wer, Jones and Woods took
twenty-two of the smallest girls out
walking one evening and treated them
to cherries. ,
The seventh grade final examination
is over now, and Calvin Darnell
stood the highest in the class his aver
age was 97 percent.
The band boys are looking for their
new instruments. Every time a train
stops, oneof them would say, "Lats go
and unload the new instruments.'
Miss Ella Hirsch of Salem who has
been on a long visit to Portland was a
guest of Mrs. Campbell on Sunday.
Miss Hirch's friend were all glad to see
her and hope she will often visit C h e -mawa.

Mro. Chalcraft, Misses Skipton, Jones,
and Gertrude and Uuth Brewer attend
ed the Recital given by the primary
class of "Miss Elma Weller in the First
Prefetyterian Church of Salem. Alice
Chalcraft played in two numbers.
The friends of Miss Kauffman, pro
fessor of English at Willamette Univer
sity are very sorry to hear that she has
severed her connection with that Col
lege and has gone to her home in Chica
go. Miss Kauffman will leave for Italy
in .a few months.
