Jan. 31, 1907.
Mr. James McMann,
Chemawa, Oregon.
Dear James:
I received your welcome letter a few
days ago. I was glad to hear irom you.
I hope these few lines will rind you well.
I am enjoying the best of life, and hope
you are doing the same.
Well, the 4th Cavalry will return in
September.. We will be in San Francis
co. Well, I'll tell you about, the field
day we had last November at Malabang.
They wouldn't let ine play, and said I
was too fast for them. So I was not al
lowed to play ball. All I do is play bail
and play in the band. I am going to
Manila next month to play baseball.
The Department of Mindanao is going,
too.
The 4th Cavalry is going to move in
April. That is we are going to Manila
before we return to U. S. A. I hope I'll
meet you some time Jim.
I was in Malabang for three weeks,
and had a good time.
Well, Jim, I think I'll come to the
conclusion wishing you good luck.
Your friend,
Clifford K. Gillmav.
David Law of Yreka, Cal. visited his
brother-in-law Albert Scott this week.
Mrs. Blanche Howard of Salem was

ning. . Mrs. Armstrong of Wallace, Idaho
visited her sister Miss Skipton part of
this week.
A representatile of the Royal Neigh
bors Lodge which is the ladies' auxiliry

The second basket ball team will play

Mute School.
Misses Hutchinson, Lalor, Brewer and
Woods saw "Madam Butterfly" in Port
land last Saturday.
Mr. Campbell went to Portland Turs
day. He went after the instruments for
the band boys. P. C.
The second basket ball team defeated
the Aibina team of North Portland last
Saturday night. The score was 24 to 17.
John Peazzoni is likely to be a pitcher
for the second base ball team as he i
the only one that can throw a calk-line. .
We saw by the Sherman Bulletin, the
new publication, published at Riverside
California, that they have a park named
"Chemawa."
The basket-ball game on Saturday
evening was very intersting. The Aibina
boys are quick skilful players and have
only been beaten once before thiss' ason.
But the Chemawa boys know a thing or
two about ball too and disappointed
plucky Aibina boys had to stand defeat
at our hands.
It has been whispered that a dramatic
entertainment is to be given in the near
future by a ciub under the supervision
of general Geo. Washoe. The club has
been ehristned " I he Remnant Oiub."
As there is skilled taient in their club
we may look forward for a good enter
tainment. The pupils of the eighth grade A class
spent Thursday in the dairy taking a
lesson in butter making tbe process was
studied by all the puplis from beginning
to end. .Mr. Cooper being their instriiOj
tor. This lesson was a very useful an 1
nstuctive one.
