Luella Ryan is working for Mrs,
Canpbell.
Mr. Goodge of Salem preached to us
on Sunday night.
The Chemawa flag is getting pretty
badly torn by the strong winds, We need
a new flag.
Although it is near the middle of Nov
ember, Chemawa still has roses in bloom
on her lawn.
Clara Robison returned on Saturday
from Grande Ronde, coming with Mr. ,
Walter and wife.
Henry Nelson and Robert Evans ar
rived at the school on Tuesday from the
Colville Reservation,
Mr.and Mrs.Sohell and daughter Stella
of Salem were guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Cox Sunday, a week ago.
The early morning Overland stopped
at Chemawa on Monday morning to let
off Viola Brown from Southeastern Ore
gon. Delia Clark of the class of 1905 writes
to the Chemawa American from Oro
ville,Calif. asking tnat the paper be sent
to her at that place.
Mr. Farrow, while on his trip to
Grande Ronde saw lots of quails and
china pheasants, but of course he hadn't
his gan with him on the trip,.
We had regular Oregon weather this
week. Plenty of rain, The farmers have
had to suspend the plowing operations
this week on account of the rain.
Gordon Hobucket arrived Sunday
morning from the Neah Bay Reserva
tion, and immediately entered the print
ing office as his choice of Industrial work.
The Southern Pacific repair gang
has been very busy removing the ties
and making general repairs in the vi
cinity of Chemawa's depot.
We were glad to see John Sulkey and
Caroline and May Meroer,who returned
to the sohool from Grande Ronde on
Tuesday with Mr. Farrow.
We see by the last issue of Talks And
Thoughts that James Smith,who is now
with us in the engineering department,
wrote an artiole on hoppiuking.
Fred Lewis and his brother Clarence
arrived at the sohool on Monday. Their
father, W.H. Lewis was a member of the
Chemawa graduating class of 1885, as
was their mother.
Mr. James Smith who has been tak
ing post-graduate course at Hampton,
Va. returned to Chemawa on Sunday
He will take oharge of our engine room
All of Mr, Smith's friends were delighted
to see him.
We had a very pleasant visit from
Mr. Raymond Walter and his estimable
wife.who spent Sunday at the Sohool,
Mr. Walter is Chief Clerk at Grand
Ronde and his wife occupies the position
of seamtress there.They came over in or
dertotake to Grand Ronde thewagon and
harness.whioh were made in our Indus
trial Departments on rush orders for the
Agency. ,
Miss Hutchinson had an applioant for
the position of orderly, but before ac
cepting him she Instructed him to make
himself more presentable, to pull up hi
stockings and wash his faoe and hand
ftd otherwise make himself presentable.
The young man soon returned to tjie
office and he looked as though he Jiad j
