jss Irene Campbell spent the Fourth
of July n'ith fi'iends in Salem.
Miss Bowman was rather overcome
from the heat on the Fourth.
The Sixth and Seventh (trades are
putting up exhibit work in their room.
James Jefferson, a former pupil of thi
school, wns here Wednesday and Thurs
day visiting friends.

Julv hi Porthind and Vancouver, Wash.,
with lvr son. Herbert.
The band and the first base-ball team
left here Monday to Fall City to help
the people there celebrate the Fourth,
and returned Thursday evening. Mer
ry times have been reported from the
hoys.
Mrs. Ohalcraft says it was delight
fully quiet at Chemawa on the Fourth.
All. the pupils and nearly all the em
ployes were off celebrating so those who
remained on the grounds enjoyed tne
unusual quiet.
We had a grand time on Fourth of
July. All the pupils were up at half
past four in the morning preparing for
the dav's festivities After breakfast
the girls started for the river for a pic
nic and the boys for Salem to take part
on the grand parade. All returning at
half past four, happy but tired. After
the "big dinner" the fire work-! b'gin
and lasted until ha I f-pa -t n inc.
Jane Evans is ,ewing for Miss Irene
Campbell. Jane is an excellent dress
maker and the work she has done for
the employes has given great satisfaction.
We feel particularly proud of her as sin1
learned her trade at Chemawa. We
have a number of girls who have been
industrious in the sewing room and who
have taken advantage of all the seam
stress has taught them who will be able
to work at their trade and make a good
living when they leave school.
