VONPAREIL The Nonpareil Literary
Society met in their usual place from
seven until nine o'clock, last Thursday
evening- All the members were present.
fter a short program was rendered
a lively debate followed, and most of the
niembers took part.
The result of the debate was two to
one in favor of the Affirmative.
After the debate the members were
informed that this would be our last
meeting for this year. However our
last debate will be with the Excelsior,
Thursday next.
This debate has caused great excite
ment between the two societies but the
Nonpareil's expect to take their defeat
good natured, as they held all honors
last year.
The Nonpareil's think it is no more
than right that the Excelsior's should
be victorious, but' nevertheless the Non
pareils are going to do the best they
know how.

The Society's will attend the Public
debate given by the Nonpareil and Ex
celsiors. After that they will disban
for the year.
The Hiawatha club held their usual
meeting last Thursday evening, in
the usual place. Owing to the amount of
business to be transacted, we were un
able to render a program or debate.
Nevertheless the meeting was attended
by all, with the same good spirit as ever.
It was quite a disappointment to receive
a reply from the Nonpareils society
stating that as the only date before the
societies disbanded was already taken
and were unable to favor us by accept
ing our challenge although expressing
their regret that it was impossible to do
so.
The club also was anxious for a reply
from the Excelsiors before disbandment
but they failed to reply. We wonder
why? The challenges were to be one,
oratorical contest. The club wishes the
Nonpareils a victory, and the Excelsior
a success, in their coming debate.
EXCELSIOR The Excelsior Literary
Society held meeting in their usual place.
The room was called to order by the
president and after settling some business
we had a very short program on account
of some members were on duty and
could not possibly be present. John
Benson carried the whole house along
when he started with his "tongue twis
ters.'' But as a rule the negative won.
Points
So anxious was the one to get points
that it became necessary for her to go
around and ask for pin points, needle
points, horse shoe nail point and tack
points to win the coining debate with the
Excelsior's Literary Society. A few pen
points were needed but they may have
come in later. Anon.
