    THE CHKMAWA AMERICAN
HERE AND ELSEWHERE
1
How do you do, George Washoe! You
are rather late in returning from your
vacation. But we welcome you just the
same.
Mr. Lew Stelzner is out this week on
a hunting expedition with some Salem
friends. Everybody is expecting to have
ducks the latter part of the week.
Make your arrangements early for the
summer so you can go to the Golden
Gate July 913 to attend the largest
convention of Indian Workers ever
assembled together.
The Weekly Chemawa American is
greatly indebted to the blacksmith shop.
Many favors have been done for us in re
pairing our machines. Last week Merl
Poland has fixed our staple binder and
James Jefferson made us a tweezer which
we are highly appreciate it.
We see by The Arrow that our Alice
Heater has entered the Jefferson Hospi
tal to equip herself as a trained nurse
and we note that she is getting along
nicely and enjoys her work. Also in the
same paper we note that Josepha Maria
was teaching in grade 4 last week at
Carlisle and that she enjoyed it.
All those who were lucky enough to
attend the party given by the members
of the band Saturday night say that it
would be a difficult task to find a jollier
crowd. The program was short but well
rendered and very appropriate for the
occasion severa' selections being heartly
encored. The refreshments were of the
very best obtainable and plenty of it.
The guests all join as one thanking Mr.
Teabo and the members for the thought
an 1 pains taken in their cordial hospitality.
Last Tuesday forenoon an interesting
debate was held by the pupils of the
sixth grade. The subject was, Resolved:
"That education is more beneficial to
mankind than wealth." The subject
was vigorously discussed for the limited
time allowed.
