Thos. S c o tt, a form er p u p il of Chemawa,
is now engaged in business for h im self a t
Keswick, Calif. He has a boot an d shoe
store, an d is doing well.
R obt. Davis and G eorge W elfelt have
com pleted papering an d p a in tin g th e em ­
ployes’ recep tio n room . I t now p re se n ts
a very “sw ell” appearance.
A u th o rity has been g ra n te d fo r th e erec­
tio n of a greenhouse; an d also fo r th e
p urchase of a lo t of sh ru b s an d p la n ts to
be added to o u r alread y p re tty cam pus.
The boys of Mrs. C am pbell’s school
room are p racticin g a song for th e n e x t
e n te rta in m e n t. I t w ill be th e ir first a t­
te m p t to sing in public.

Jos. Teabo, R ueben S au n d ers and Sam
M orris, th re e of C hem aw a’s illu strio u s
baseball players, are receiving some good
offers fo r th e ir services d u rin g th e com ing
season. E ugene as well as Salem , is very
anxious to engage Mr. S au n d ers an d offers
a very su b sta n tia l financial in d u cem en t.
A ll th re e of th e boys are in receip t of le t ­
te rs from E a ste rn m anagers who are e n ­
deavoring to engage them to play a t th e
W o rld ’s F a ir a t St. L ouis d u rin g th e su m ­
m er.
A lively c o n te st was on am ong th re e of
th e k itc h e n boys, J o h n L a B ounte, H a rry
S to d d a rd and G eorge D oud, la st S a tu rd a y
afternoon. A prize was offered to th e one
who ro asted th e best pan of coffee and th e
re s u lt showed th re e well ro asted pans of
coffee an d th re e poorly ro asted In d ia n
boys. .John L a B ounte w alked off w ith
th e dish of p ear b u tte r an d cream ; w hile
H a rry S to d d a rd took second place, an d
G eorge Dowd won th e buby. The boys all
did th e w ork exceptionally well.

basketball.

L ena Y oung has re tu rn e d to school and
h e r m any frie n d s are glad to have h er
back because she is a good, n e a t g irl and
we alw ays welcome su ch girls.
