Harry Shale, a Quiniault Indian, hns
made a catch of a sea otter , which is very
unique-, says the Telegram. Shale is cou
siilered ona of the most successful hunters
on I he reservation. Taking a companion
in a canoe, he started out through the surf,
Sunday morning, carving only a 30 40 Win
cluster After they passed Granville
Hocks his keen, black eyes discovered a
moving spot on the surf of the sea, which
experience told him was an otter. He took
careful aim when within -good distance,
fired one shot and soon pulled the game
into the boat. It was a fine specimen of
the silver-tipped otter, and the skin is
said to be worth $500.
Sunday's San Francisco Examiner con
tained a lengthy account of Wesley Davis'
marriage to Marcella Oginez, a pretty, re
fined, educated, full hlooded Pueblo Indian
;irl, and a former pupil of the Phoenix In
dian school, which recently took place in
:m Indian village in New Mexico. Mr.
Davis U a graduate of Cornell University,
a member of an aristocratic New York
family, an intimate friend of the Vander
luiilts and a favorite in New York's Four
Hundred. . It is said that the young man's
parents are prostrated over the affair. The
Examiner did not state how the young
Mrs. Davis' parents treated the affair. It is
in he hoped, however, that they will for
give their erring daughter and reconcile
themselves to the situation.
Mies Matilda Kruger and Miss Delia
Randall of, Hoopa Valley school, were vis
itors at Chemawa on Wednesday. Miss
Kruger graduated from Chemawa five years
Kgo and is now seamstress at the Hoopa
Valley School . Her old friends at Che
mawa, were very glad to greet Miss Kruger
and all heartily congratulated her upon the
success she has met with in her work at
Hoopa Valley. Miss tlandall was edu
cated at Carlisle, studied nursing there and
then graduated from the New Haven
School for nurses. She has been nurse at
Hoopa Valley, but has been transferred to
Carlisle Reservation school. Both of tuese
clever voune Indian women are an honor
1 to their race and the schools that have edu
cated them.
