Harness Department.
The harness makers are nicely situated in
their new quarters, and it is with some
pride that MrFarrow shows a visitor
through his department. This place is a
model of convenience in all respects. On
the wall hangs a case holding four prizes
that exhibits from this shop have taken
at the State fair in the past four years,
which testify to the excellent grade of
work these workmen are capable of doing.
The harness men are making seven
leather cornet cases for the band. x
The Laundry.
Rosetta Odessa, a new member of the
laundry force is highly spoken of by the
head of that department.
Mary McCloud, of Montana, Ivy and
Odessa Dodson, of Blanchard, Wash.,
and Elmer LaFonso, of.Ch.ico, Calif., have
recently joined Mrs. Brewer's force in the
laundry. .''
Among the new machinery recently in
stalled in the laundry is a body iroher,
shirt polisher, fluter, and three patent
skirt ironers, aT of which are heated by gas,
and also six electrical irons. This ma
chinery is all of the latest, up-to date mo
dels and is run' by the new electric motor..
Wagon Makers at work.
Manager Hilb, of this , department is
placing some handy machinery in the shed
hack (if the engine house, in the shape of a"
bone cutter, sausage machine and a big
grind stone weighing one-fourth of a ton.
They are all connected by a belt to a shaft
over head run by electrical power. "One or
all these machines,a3 desired,' may be oper
ated at once.
The wagon shop department is . a scene
of activity this week.
Joe Davis has two trucks under con
struction for the warehouse. A new-
wheelbarrow recently turned out by Joe
speaks well for his ability in this line and
insures the warehouse people some s good
trucks. -
This department has justfinished fitting
up the new harness shop" with new furniture
of all kinds as used in such places. A visit
to the -place convinces one that the work
could not have been put in better hands.
Mr. Hilb expects to begin work on fit-ting-up
the tailor shop shortly, installing
new furniture, etc,
Three new wagon gears are turned out
ready for the blacksmiths. Chemawa
wagons have an excellent reputation and
find a ready market.
A new storeroom will soon be fitted-up
for the storage of wagon material.
The Engineer and Plumber Department.
Martin Wallon, Marcel Arcasa and
John Fiukbonner.of the engineer's depart
ment, have been on the sick list this week.
We hope to see them around again within
. a few days.
Joe Brignone'has returned to resume his
studies after several months absence. Joe
is a former member of Eagineer Becker's
department. -
The plumbers will soon begin work
plumbing the building formerly occupied
by the tailor shop, but recently converted
into a cozy cottage. The building will be
'fitted-up with all modern conveniences in
the way of plumbing, Mr. Mann and Mr.
Wood and their families will occupy the
place when completed.
; In The Tailor Shop.
Among some of the jobs now 'in the
hands of the members of this department,
is, a suit and overcoatfor Superintendent
Potter, a suit for Colonel Pringle, Rup r
visor of engineering, and a suit for Dr.
Gillis of Salem. Woik being done by Wru.
Blodget and Jesse Crook,
Jane Evans and Fay Charles are also
making a jacket and skirt for Mrs. Hi'b.
