enroutto the convention at Forest Grove.
The train did not leiva Portland until
five o'clock, so we had the day for seeing
the splits of Portland. We visited the
great Oit-H'HilHD building. Climbing the
the stair to the lower made us groan, but
the view repaid ii".
After dmuer we went to 'he City Hull,
where we found many interesting things.
Five o'clock found us on the way to For
eat Grove, We enjoyed tliU ride very
much for it took us in a different part of
the slate.

homes where we were to be entertained.
That evening a gentleman fmm I'on
Utiil delivered an address, after this the
dulni(atB were given a reception.

In the afternoon Dr. Maud Allen, a re
turned missionary from India, told us
about life in India. After her address
shearraved herself in the costume of that
country and sang a song in the native ton
gue. In the evening Mis McKlroy, president
of the Portland Association talked on citv
work for women.

Monday morning a merry p ir'v took th
train for Portland. When we reached
Portland this time we went to the Y. W.
C. A. rooms. This is a nice pi o to go to
mid I am sure the ladies and girl from
here would enjoy making this n resting
place when In Portland. 'And l lie hulks
will Itejunt as glad to have us do so.
We did some shopping, viaiied the
schools atnl the City Park.
We were so kindly received by the For
est Grove people. They did everything la
their power to make our stay a pleasant

ber came away ftom the convention with
the feeling that the christian life and the
ever willingness to hlp others are the
only sure pathways In true happinesB.
The college buildings are very attractive.
The campus was beautiful. The students
seemed so proud of their school. One re
mark marie by a delegate rings In our ears:
"How nicely you keep your buildings!"
said a lady,
"Yes," replied a Senior, "If anyone
mars our buildings we run him out."

In the summer of 18!)5 I made a flying
trip lo Chemawa nnd remained five days,
the guest of Mr. and Mrs, Itakestraw. I
made many acquaintances wilh the pretty
girls and nice hoys of the " Big Hchool." 1
hear that, tlie "Big HcIkmiI' is advancing
under the able management, of Mr. Potter.
Circumstiinceg prevented me from writing
to The Amkrjcan before because I am an
Ignorant Indian, having only attended
school six months In my life. think my
cpel ing is unfit for the CIlHliiwa students
to read, especially those that have ut tended
the "Big School" for Ave or eight years.
