INDIAN APPROPRIATIONS.
Subcommittee Makes Report to
Full Committee, Which Shows
Liability.
Washington, Feb. 4. The subcommit
tee of the committee on Indian affairs in
the house made its report to the full com
mittee on the Indim appro print ion bill.
It strikes out provision for pay of eleven
Indian agencies, Including Ponca, Oloe
and Oakland agency, Oklahoma, which
crrled$l,500; the Bantee agency in Ne
braska, Carrying $1,200, and the Yankton
agency, Boulh Djkota, carrying $1,600 The
sum of $6, 750 is made available forintereat
in lieu of investment of $185,000 due the
Kansas tribeof Indians, per treaty nf 1846,
and $327.72, for interest on $66,554.43 for
educational and oilier beneficial purposes
in behalf of ihe Kick a poos in Kansas.
The amouot recommended fur salaries
of the Dawes commission is $15,000. For
expend, clerical help, etc., $78,000: con
tingent expenses, $2,000; for removing in
truders. $15,000; in all $110,000. The just
and reasonable share of each member of
the tribe is declared to be 600 acres for the
Chii!knnuWB;380 acres for the Choctaws ;
lf0 for th Creeks, and 120 for t!ie Cuero
kee. Thfc secretary is authorized to pay
the Oloe Indians of Oklahoma 50,000 of
the money collected for them It) Ihb settle
ment of their claim for lands sold for them
in Nebraska.
Mr. Curtis, of Kansas, in looking after
the item relating to the Haskell institute,
bei of pupils from 650 to 750 and at) ap
propriation ol $174,250 and for diainHge
$),000. He also secured increases in the
itsms relating to the Kiokpo echonl iu
Kansas $13,580 and Chiloeuo school, of
Oklahoma, $140,400 Other items are:
For the construction of two bridges, one
over Big Soldier creek and one over Liltle
Holdier, creek on the Pottawatomie reserva
tion in Jackson Co., Kas., $3,000,
For all purposes Osages, $3,45(1; Paw
nees, $47,100; Pottawolomies, $2,541.11,'
Quapaws, $1,700; Bsc and Foxes in MU
Bouri, $8,070; Winnwhagnes, $44,162.47;
for subsistence and civilization, Apaches,
Kiowas, Comanches, Wichitas and affiliat
ed bands, $50,000;' Arapahopu and Cbey
ennes, $50,000; Kansas Indians, Okla
homa, $2,500; Kiekapoos, $5,000; Poncns,
$15,000, to be divided pro rata smong all
the members of said lrit. in Oklahoma
and Nebraska and Dakota; Tonkawas,
Oklahoma $1,000.
