KEEP OFF THE GRASS.
We are glad that the frost of two weeks
ago failed to kill all our roses. There are
several la various parts or tne campus still
willing to smile upon us.
How nice it is to see the hundred little
hoys in the Small Bo s' Home say their
evening prayers and then clamber into bed
to hear Mrs. Adair, their school mother,
read them their regular good-uight siory.
They have just completed Baldwin's Fifty.
Fairy Stories and Bible stories, all of which
they remember, as Mrf. Adair explains
each story to them and answers th-dr hun
dred and one little- questions. Our Little
Boys' Department is a Model Home in
every way owing to Mis. Adair's faithful,
efficient and motherly management.

Dr. Buchanan, Superintendent "of the
Tulalip Boarding School Wash., wriusllat
he has opened his school and it is over
flowing with pupi's.1 We are glad to I mv
this and feel assured that the Tulalip school
will keep to the front in good shape and
will be one of our best Ites-iVft on schools.
Dr. Buchanan is an able scholar and a
thorough practical ' business man just the
combination necessary to make a successful
superintendent. The American wishes Dr.
Buchanan and his n w school a happyand
prosperous ew Year.
It is unwise as well as ungentlernanly to
tease and worry the simpl9 minded.
What next? It is a real genuine up-to-date
poultry department under the superin
tendence of Mr. Overman who thoroughly
understands the business, The new hen
house is nearing completion and some fine
hens will be purchased as a starter. A large
class of girls as well as boys will receive
instructions in this important and valuable
line of work.
We give below the opinion of the Mult
nomah Footballists, as expressed by three
different persons. Itisprettv plain talk
but it expresses their opinion not only of
the Christmas game or of the games played
with Chemawa, but also of the games in
general.
"You can't expect to play an honest
game with such characters."
"The Multnorrfahs may cont: ol the Ore
gonian but they can't control the crowd
at the game who hissed them repeatedly
during the Xmas game."
"They'll do it by swindling if they can't
do it any other way."
As we paso out of the year 1901 we cau
see many things for which we may be
thankful. Kind and belpful words have
been spoken to us, encouragements given,
and the greatest of all, God has given ns
health and strength to do our work, and
to battle with discouragements. May our
"motto" for 1902 be "Onward and Up
vp ard." May we take hold of our work and
labor with the thought that God has given
each and every one a work to do, a corner
to fill. It may be pleasant and it maybe
disagreeable, but, Jesus knows it all.
With this thought before us our work
may become easier to do. May the end of
.this year find us stronger, better, happier
and wit h more sunshine in our souls; More
of the uplifting humanity it) our nature.
Turning away no one that we may" help by
words of encouragement.
