lTH the steady 'increase in “the number of students that
are enrolled every year in the University ;of Oregon, the
need of an Associated Body of Womep becomes more ur
gent. The subject has not drawn the direct attention of
the girls of the University, but this may be excused by the fact that
3 h^ not h HI -put b^fore them, I wish, now, to call their atten
tion to a few of these needs..
It must be remembered that as the number of students in
creases, the harder it is to maintain the democratic spirit of the Uni
versity. As a state institution, this spirit must be maintained.
The difficulty of keeping it up will arise among the young wom
en of the University, for they'have, none of the athletic sports and
clubs to keep them in contact with one another. There are but
three University organizations to which the girls are eligible, the
Young Women s Christian Association, the Eutaxian Society and
the German Club—to which young men are also eligible. It is be
yond all hopes that all of the young women should belong to any
one of these, and knowing the necessity for some means hy which
they all can have an equal part, the Associated Body of Women
-seems to be the only one that could adapt itself to this need.
Aside from this, such an organization would prove a great con
venience in the social life and affairs of the college. Many things
come up, that should be discussed by-hll-of the women of the Uni-
