This year should be one of unprecedented prog­
ress for the University, of Oregon in all its activi­
ties. Caution was the by-word Of the campus last year. That no
word of criticism should lessen the chances for the appropriation,
progress was slower than it might otherwise have been. Now with
greater resources at hand, than there have ever been before, fuller
development and greater progress will surely come. With this
development should come an increase in the literary feeling. Scar­
city of copy should not be the cloud over the head of the editor,
but rather more copy should be on hand every month than could
possibly be printed.
Let everyone support the Monthly. If you cannot write your­
self, urge your friends to write. It is to the interest of every stu­
dent that the University of Oregon should have, a representative
magazine.
Innovations
This is the time to establish precedents. Our
university is young and growing; our customs are
neither many nor varied and if we wish to be distinguished as the
University of Oregon, it is now we must begin , to do those things
necessary to make us distinctive. Last year there were many in­
novations; Freshman and Sophomore rhetoricals; the jollification for
the girls; “College Hour;” the women s edition of the Weekly, »and
