to get out this issue the editor voluntarily cut his vacation
three days short. , Nor is this habit unusual on the part of
editors of college publications. We haye nothing to say about
that since a man’s vacation may be considered his own, to
e û t short as he pleases. But when it comes to the question
of college work a principle is at issue. , It takes-time to run a
successful college paper, long, intent hours. Much of this
time must be deducted from that popularity considered neces
sary for the getting of “A’s” in college work. The editor
frequently sacrifices his ambitions in this respect. He gets
nothing in return. His labor is not attractive and brings
with it none of those rewards and popular commendations
gained through other student activities. He works during the
whole year. It may be contended also th a t. the college paper
is 'th e expression of the highest culture in the University
and therefore-is its'best advertisement. Then why should
not the editor receive college credit for his work? In some in
stitutions salaries are given, but we think this prejudicial to
the best collegiate interests. A due number of credits would
be the- only just equivalent. This request has been made in
Oregon and refused ; why not give credit for work done ?
Exchanges . Our contemporary college papers have been
placed at the disposal of the students at large. A shelf has
been secured for them in the fiction department of the Univer
sity library. ; A1'1 those interested in the development of our
college papers should read these .exchanges.. We profit by
suggestion, as well as comparison.
