R ules to G overn the C onduct of
W om en of the U n iv ersity

P rinted copies of a set of rules to
govern the conduct of the wom en of
the U niversity of O regon have been
d istrib u te d by P rofessor Luella C lay
C arson, Dean of W om en. T he rules
are ten in num ber and ap p ear in full be­
low. They are headed “ G eneral U ni­
versity R egulations,” with the su b ­
head, “ T he follow ing reg u latio n s shall
be in force for wom en of the U n iv ersity
unless un d er special p erm issio n .” Sev­
eral, though not all, of the so ro rities
have form ally accepted the rules. Som e
of the rules coincide closely with cu s­
tom and ex istin g so ro rity house-rules,
while o th ers have not h ith e rto been

T he m ost
s ta rtlin g of th eir plays was the “ A l­
um ni sp read ,” w hich gained y ardage
at first but was solved by the V arsity
when attem p ted th e second-tim e. T he
A lum ni played the gam e w ithout the
use of a su b stitu te , sh o w in g re m a rk ­
able stay in g pow ers. 'They w ere lu sti­
ly cheered tliro u g h o u t by the u p p er­
classm en under the .lead ersh ip of Van
Dusen, while Loosely led the u n d e r­
classm en in en co u rag in g th e V arsity .
The U n iv ersity L aud was p resen t and
was rep eated ly cheered:. T h e utm ost
good feeling prevailed am ong the 1500
sp ectato rs and betw een th e team s.
The place kick th at won the gam e
for the u n d erg rad u ates was m ade late
in the second half. ■ '1'wice before place-
kicks had booli attem p ted and had
failed. In the second half the A lu m ­
ni, who were n ear the east goal, punted
to get out of danger. C lark heeled a
lair catch, and M oullen kicked from
placem ent on the th irty yard line, the
form ally prescribed by or for any so r­
ority. T he first rule applies to the M ary
Spiller H ouse, and th e o th ers to all
m em bers of the U niversity, w herever
they m ay reside. This is the first tim e
th a t an attem p t has been m ade to e n ­
force definite and absolute rides off
co n d u ct arnong O regon eo-cds. 'The
rules follow :
1. 'The M ary S piller H ouse shall
n o t.b e , open to callers on M onday,
'Tuesday, W ednesday and T h u rsd a y
evenings.

2. Calls m ay be received on a fte r­
noons betw een three and five-thirty.
3. 'The doors shall be closed at ten
o'clock.
4. No h ouse-parties shall be given
except on F riday and S atu rd ay n ig h ts
and n ig h ts preceding holidays and such
p arties shall end by 11:30.

as of yore.
'The freshm en gam e was fast ami in ­
terestin g . P o rtla n d ’s team is plucky
and gave the ( )regon babies a hard
fight. T h e score was m ade in the first
half by straig h t bucks after the ball
had been rushed to the fifteen y ard line
by end ru n s and passes. 'The fresh ­
man defense was good while P o rtlan d
excelled in tackling.
A banquet in honor of the A lum ni
and the V arsity team s was given in
the evening at the C om m ecial C lub by
H on. S. H . F riendly.
