The regular meeting took place on
Tuesday evening in Deady Hall. Miss
Balderee, president of the society, led
the meeting which proved to be help
ful as well as interesting to the large
number of young women present. The
topic, “The Student Volunteer Move
ment,” was outlined by the leader. She
told of its beginning on the banks of
the Connecticut river, twenty years
ago, at a conference where one hun
dred volunteers were registered from
college circles Since then, over three
thousand students, one third young
women, have been dedicated to the
work. W ord was read from Mrs.
Ennis, formerly Miss Logan, who is
on the field in Benguella, where she
finds pleasant work among the natives.
M iss Essie Secrist read a short pa
per on Medical Missions, which she
showed to be the forerunner of Chris
tianity in foreign lands.
This work is crippled for want of
equipment, and for lack as well of wo
men physicians, who can reach the
foreign women as can no other mis
sionary.
Miss W atson spoke entertainingly of
the need of teachers of English, domes
tic science and physical culture.
Miss W ilb u r’s clear and beautiful
soprano voice was much appreciated in
her solo.

being formed. The local committee is
anxious to give every association mem

of the privilege.
