T he m eetin g F e b ru a ry 18 was in
charge of M iss G reen, chairm an of the
M issionary com m ittee. It was one of
the best m eetings of the year. W e had
with us M iss H a n n a of the class of ’96,
one of the c h a rte r m em bers of the A s
sociation, and now hom e on a vacation
from h er m issio n ary work am ong the
A laskans.
An in sp irin g ad d ress was given by
M iss Ju lia F raser, a prom inent home
m issionary w orker of the P resbvter-
ian church. M iss F raser was one of
the speak ers at the Y. W . C. A. con
vention in C orvallis last spring and the!
girls who heard h er there were very I
glad indeed of the chance of m eeting
her once m ore. F o r the past year she
has been w o rk in g am ong the M or
m ons in U tah, g ain in g firsthand know l
edge of th e ir do ctrin es and custom s.
She said th at the M orm onism display-'
ed in Salt L ake C ity is not M orm onism
pioper, hut only the b etter side of it,
polished and dressed up as a ttra c tiv e
ly as possible, to. disarm the suspicious
<md averse an ticip atio n s of tourists,
sightseers, and the general public. In
o rder to see M orm onism as it really is,
and as it is practiced, one m ust leave
the public g a th e rin g s and public ser
mons and lectures and investigate the
tem ple service to which no one but a
M orm on is ever ad m itted, or go to the
out-of-the-w ay villages and d istricts,
iem ote from public inspection and c riti
cism, for it is in such places as these,
that tru e M orm onism exists.
In closing, she urged the girls to
pledge them selves, to the in teg rity , the
honor, and the sp iritu al w elfare of our
nation, and to use all th eir influence
against those doctrines, custom s, and
•s o-called religions which are a disgrace
t o any civilized nation.
