R hodes Scholarship.
l )n T u esd ay and W ednesday, Jan­
uary 21 and 22, the p resid en ts of the
various colleges of O regon m et at the
U niversity as a co m m ittee in charge
of the Rhodes sch o larsh ip prelim inary
exam inations. O n ly one applicant p re­
sented him self th is y ea r as com pared
to five last year. C ornelius Beebe, ’09,
of the U n iv ersity of O regon was ex­
am ined by the co m m ittee and if he
passes successfully, will be on the eligi­
ble list with Bolton lla m b le and Cecil
Lyons who took the exam ination last
year. T he final selection will be made
on a basis of re p resen tativ e scholar­
ship.
W liile the p re sid e n ts of the colleges
of the state w ere in E ugene for the
purpose of g iv in g the Rhodes S cholar­
ship ex am in atio n , th ey met with I‘res.
I’. L. C am pbell of the U niversity in
order to re g u la te the req uirem ents for
entrance.
N o th in g definite was ac­
com plished, how ever, as they decided
to postpone action until June at the
State T each ers' C onvention.
