Professor S taffo rd ’s bulletin on the
m ineral resources and industries of Ore-
gon is now in press. I his bulletin will
striv e* o show where the m inerals in the
sta te occur, in w h at q u an tities, where it
is possible to gain inform ation concern
ing them , since m any of the resources are
not developed. The ow nership o f p ro p
erties, and the ex ten t to which develop
ment has lieen carried on will also be
set forth. E verything of economic value
in m inerals will 1« included in the bulle
tin. from asbestos to zinc.
The bulletin has beer.compiled th ro u g h
Professor S taffo rd 's efforts, w ith the co
o p eratio n of jieople in the field who
know the conditions.
It will contain
a b o u t 100 pages and be illu strated w ith
half tone en gravings and a m ap giving
a graphic rep resen tatio n of the gold and
silver industries of the sta te . The bulle
tin will be ready for d istrib u tio n in ab o u t
tw o weeks.
The gold and silver industries are
the best developed in the s ta te and have
received a g reat a m o u n t of the a tte n tio n .
Next to these comes coal, and the stone
and d a y industries follow in order of
im portance.
All the mines th a t have
been develojied at all are described and
where a n y th in g significant of m etal
lurgical practices is evident it has received
a tte n tio n . Il is impossible to present an
ideal discussion of the subject as nothing
sh o rt of a th o ro u g h ly equipped geological
survey w ould have perm itted such to
have been presented, 'flic bulletin, h o w
ever, co n tain s all av ailab le inform ation
and will doubtless be gladly received by
the public.
