The stu dents of M cM innville College by w atch ing the daily papers kept in touch with the ’varsity team th ro u g h o u t the e n tire trip, and although some disappointm ent was felt at the result of th e gam e with Stanford, yet when the superior w eight of the California team was considered, it was agreed th at our men hail m ade a creditable showing. Hut when it was announced th at Oregon had defeated 1 . C. by a score o f 2 to o our bum p of pride increased perceptibly. W hen we rem ember th at our ’varsity team is the first football aggregation to score against Berkeley on her own ground it m ust be adm itted there is ju st cause for elation. The California papers speak of the O re gonians in the highest term s. The trip as a whole has been a success. Not only has Oregon defeated me i Diversity of Calitornia, hut she lias secured a posiliou in athletic circles never before held by her. We are proud of the reputation made by our sister school. It m eans much for Oregon, as well as for I’. O. individually. [M cM innville is right in line and cer tainly displays the proper spirit, i t is a pleasure to the men on our team to know th at the people ol Oregon are behind them and interested in th eir work. The ’varsity eleven represents a state and state pride should hack it up. Compare the above with some of the contem ptible slurs th at have appeared in the Salem Statesm an.
