I feel I have the skills to represent OPEU at the regional and
national level, and to build coalition alliances that are crucial to our development and
survival. In an ever changing, sometimes adversarial climate, I believe I can pull
people together by defining our common goals through research, genuine caring and
mutual respect. We must elect people that can lead the fight to build union density, to
ensure that every employee that wants to be represented, is represented!
Collectively, we can bring about change, create public awareness, win elections, enact
legislation and ensure our voices are heard. To continue and build on that legacy, we
need strong, determined and focused leaders.. .people with the ability to lead within
our own organization, as well as at the community and state levels. Building alliances
is crucial not only for our development, but also for our survival. It is my goal to build
partnerships with local community groups to increase our strength, our voice and our
power to bring about positive and necessary change.
I present the following ideas:
1) I would strive to develop a Political Leadership Program. The political influence
OPEU has is dependent not only on our Political Department, our strength is also
measured by how informed and active our members are.
