OPEU, SEIU Local 503 Strategic Goals
■ LABOR MOVEMENT Revitalize the labor movement by building a militant, progressive social and
economic movement through educating and mobilizing workers. Build and strengthen labor coalition through the State
AFL-CIO, CLC’s, Jobs with Justice, and other labor organizations of strategic importance to our goals.
■ INTERNAL ORGANIZING Strengthen the internal structure of OPEU through a program which ID’s,
recruits, trains, mentors and motivates leaders, and which formally recognizes and values member contributions. Our
program to build the Union should be based on direct action, power and militancy in the workplace.
■ EXTERNAL ORGANIZING To build the external organizing capacity of OPEU, SEIU Local 503 through
focusing on staff development and developing a comprehensive member organizing program that will allow us to increase
membership by 12,000 in the next 2 years.
■ POLITICS Continue to organize and activate out membership, the labor community and other allies, and
increase our resources to fight the anti-workers agenda. Promote and protect social and economic justice for Oregon
workers. Recruit, elect and hold accountable pro-worker candidates for public office and stabilize funding for public/
human services.
