    • Make history when our ballot measure extends collective bargaining rights to
13,000 home care workers. 1500 have already joined our Union, pay Union dues,
and help in our struggle for workers’ rights because they know we are stronger
together and weaker alone.
•
Celebrate temporary workers who joined us to stand up for fair benefits.
I am committed to members holding the power to run our Union, to fight anti
worker politicians, and to lead the way for unorganized workers in our society to
have the same rights we do.
OPEU’s mission to improve the quality of life for workers and families through
member empowerment and a progressive labor movement is very real to me. Let’s face
it: workers without a collective voice have no power.
Solidarity works. Our strong Union is built by direct action, direct involvement, and
by empowered workers. 1998 was a winning year for OPEU because our members
stepped up, came together and took action on issues that ranged from defeating anti
union politician Sizemore to our contract with no take-aways.
OPEU, SEIU Local 503, is leading the way to rebuild the labor movement into a
strong and energetic force for workers. 2000 brings new challenges, and unfortunately,
some “same old’’ challenges. We can again turn back anti-worker politicians and
celebrate victory—as a team.
Together, we will make OPEU the greatest Union in the country. I would be
honored to serve a second term as your President.
Please mail your ballot—vote to re-elect Nancy Padilla for President and vote to
build our power.
And remember, we are stronger together!
