Potential Stewards
Stewards are our union's leadership link in a
specific neighborhood, town or region of
the state.
Homecare stewards'duties are:
Homecare workers and our allies rally in Salem for health care reform.
•
Build the union by maintaining
two-way communication with other
homecare workers through new worker
orientations and trainings, house visits,
phone calls, regional meetings and more.
•
Build political power through activities
such as CAPE sign-ups, lobby days, voter
registration, and election activity.
•
Work with the Resource Line to
understand your contract and agency
rules, recognize potential grievances,
document facts and keep good records,
help other homecare workers problem
solve, follow-up with workers who have
used the resource line to bring them into
union activities.
Health Care Reform Can’t Wait
If we're going to fix our economy, we must fix
America's broken health care system - we cannot afford
to wait. As care providers we know first hand how our
health care system impacts families, both ours and our
clients'. SEIU members are fighting to make sure that
people who like their current coverage will be able to
keep it, but if you can't afford coverage or if your choices
are too limited or unaffordable, then you can choose an
affordable public option. We also need to make sure
that those who cannot afford coverage get the
assistance they need to cover their premium and
out of pocket costs.

Honoring Scott Lay
Homecare Local 99 honors the life of Scott
Lay who most recently served as the chair
of the Oregon Home Care Commission.
Scott passed away on July 31,2009, but
will forever be remembered as a fierce and
intelligent advocate for seniors and people
with disabilities and his kind regard for
homecare workers.
Meeting Notice
The homecare local will vote on revisions to the
Constitution and Bylaws at the Homecare Council
meeting on October 17th at the Salem Union Hall,
1730 Commercial St. SE. All union meetings are
