My experience with the union is limited but from what I have seen
so far I believe in what the Union stands for. I have attended some of
the original meetings prior to our first contract negotiations. In the
spring of this year two of my three foster women and I attended the
lobby day and were very impressed to see how the Union process
works.
Through these experiences and belonging to the Klamath Lake
Care Providers I have learned that there are no more worthy people to
work and fight for than Adult Foster Care Providers.

Being involved in bargaining for SEIU 503 for the past 2 yrs on our
2nd contract. I believe I am well informed and meet with people to
help them understand that Standing Together is better than alone.

I have been an Adult Foster Home owner and care provider for
almost 10 years. During those 10 years I have been in touch with
ACPO leaders and I know of their big efforts and little achievements in
regards to the improvement of payments received for care of Medicaid
residents. When the right to organize in union has been signed into
law by the Oregon governor in 2007 the organization became legal,
official and the most effective way to work between AFH provider
and the state representatives of DHS. Good examples of the Union's
efficiency are shown in the agreements made between the AFH Union
and DHS regarding the 2008 rate increase and the 2009 halting of the
intention to cut rates and also the benefits of some residents.
Due to these achievements I am ready to offer my help in this
effort of organizing the Adult Foster Care providers, to further achieve
the improvement of their work environment and the better care of the
resident they care for. I will communicate with members of the union
and will assist others who wish to become union members, as well as
any other necessary activities.

I have consistently served Adult Care Providers in the Roseburg
area with regular meeting opportunities that also carry CEUs. I am
interested in serving with our new union, SEIU, as a Council Director
because I see that we have greater power as a union if we all stand
together. I will do all I can to help build better communication
among all Adult Care Providers.

I care about the needs of people. I voice my opinion and make
sure everyone's rights are protected. I'm a care provider for a family
member with developmental disabilities. I think we have to fight to
win, and I want to fight for all providers.

The reason I decided to join the Union is that I feel we need
the support of people with the same goals. To be able to have a
voice and freedom to speak out for what we believe in without the
threat of any repercussions.
I come from a lifelong family of union members, all of whom
are now retired. I value the strength; unity and fellowship of the
union, and it's commitments to its members. I feel I would be
a great AFH District Council Director because of my dedication
and drive to help make our union goals obtainable for all of us.
We all deserve to have the same benefits as our elected state
representatives have for themselves and their families. I, along with
you will help make this possible for us all!
To let you know a little bit about myself and the kind of work I
have done over my life. I belonged to the Culinary Union and Meat
Wrapper Union in my younger years. When I had to have major
surgery the health plan was right there to take the financial burden
off of me. I also have had my own business where I could not afford
health care and had to make decisions that was not always in my
best interest. So I have been on both sides of the track.
