Qualifications for this office:
Other union experience:
Experience in speaking to the Media, the
Legislature and other groups. Experience in
working with diverse groups, conducting meetings.
Experience in problem solving with members and
advocating for groups of workers. I am an activist
with the ability to mentor and encourage new
leaders.
Why I am seeking this office:
My decision to run is based on a commitment and
willingness to contribute to the best of my ability
toward building our union and representing SEIU
members with respect and integrity. I want to build
on the experience I have gained to move our
union forward. I believe a strong union if built by
the direct involvement and empowerment of
workers, from work sites to our communities to
the legislature. I enjoy the challenge of seeking
solutions to issues facing SEIU members, encour
aging and motivating members to take power in
the workplace and ownership of their union.
Goals during the term of office:
To maintain strong contracts, bargain fair wage
increases, and keep fully paid medical benefits.
To protect pensions, benefits and workers' rights.
To prevent contracting out and privatization. To
continue with our mission to improve the quality
of life through member empowerment and a
progressive labor movement. To continue to be a
strong democratic union who organizers for
strength internally and organizes unorganized
workers. To continue building a strong political
program, to elect pro-worker legislatures and hold
them accountable.

I worked with the SEIU legislative department in
Washington DC and the Local 503 political
department in Salem.
Why I am seeking this office:
My own personal union experiences have made
me feel like I actually have a voice in my work site.
The training and opportunities the union has given
me has already empowered me to become more
active and involved in my sublocal and in politics.
My experiences have inspired me to give back to
SEIU by running for Vice President of Local 503.
I'd like the opportunity to be a part of the exciting
growth I've seen in 503 and help others find that
they too have a voice and deserve to be heard.
Goals during the term of office:
There really is strength in unity. My overall goal
would be to increase member activism. When I
was in Washington DC I saw politicians actively
seeking out our union's endorsement not for
financial contributions, but for the block of votes
that comes with it. They respect our numbers on a
national level; we need to mobilize our members
to regain that respect on the state and worksite
levels.

I believe we need to promote more programs like
the leadership academy which identify future
leaders and help to foster member activism.
I would like to see plans developed within
individual locals that partner current leaders and
future leaders in recruiting and activating their

officers and stewards in developing these plans
and carrying them out. The only way to combat
member apathy is with contagious activism and
enthusiasm, aka. Peer pressure and nagging.

At first I thought about salary freezes and various
contract negotiations, but then I realized that
those are just symptoms of the real issue we need
to deal with: member apathy. These other issues
would not be issues if we had more of our
