views of the membership in their Districts.

WHY ARE YOU SEEKING THIS OFFICE AND WHAT
ARE YOUR GOALS FOR SEIU LOCAL 503, OPEU
| DURING YOUR TERM? As an in-home health care
I worker, I believe our greatest challenge is being accepted as
[ professionals. I also believe that there are few, if any, public
employees Who are getting the recognition as professionals
they deserve. I want to work for that récognition through
public awareness programs, and through enhancing the visible
level of task training and professional development training
for every member of the union.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR YOUR DISTRICT?
Ensure that uniform, recognized professional training
standards are in place, and that every member has access to
the education and assessment necessary to cetify they are at or
above those standards.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST SINGLE ISSUE THE UNION
WILL FACE DURING YOUR TERM AND HOW
WOULD YOU PROPOSE TO RESOLVE IT? In times of
budget cuts and reluctance for funding human services
programs, we need to state — clearly, loudly, and often — that
we provide the best service for the lowest overall cost.
Corporate and political support for outsourcing notwithstand
ing, we need to demonstrate that we are the professionals -
we are the people who have been doing the job better, and for
less, than any proposed system.
District 4 District Director
M untain and, il possible expand the level of health care
msurançe for all members; Organize w orkers m uursing homes
and othei residential care facilities Get every available health
care worker into the union, and get them registered to vote.
WHÀI IS IHEBIGGES1 SINGLE ISSUI THE UNION
VI ILL FACE DURING YOUR TERM AND HOW
WOULD YOU PROPOSE TO RESOLVE IT? Budget/
funding shortfalls at the Federal and state levels are virtually
inevitable; By making sure that all our members are registered
to vote, and that politicians are aware of our numbers, we can
get better consideration for our positions. Most of the funding
decisions will be b ised on political considerations, and with
the kinds ol voter numbers we can mobilize, we can be m a
position io affect sonic of those decisions
