EUGENE - How has the
women’s movement which has
swept across the nation affected
organized labor?
That will be one topic of
discussion at a two-day con
ference on the role of women in
labor unions and the labor force
to be held at the University of
Oregon this spring.
Co-hosted by the Oregon
Labor Education and Research
Center (LERC) and the Oregon
Coalition of Labor Union
Women (CLUW), the con
ference -- scheduled for
Saturday and Sunday, April 29
and 30 -- will include a series of
workshops in the U of O’s Erb
Memorial Union.
According to Steven Deutsch,

and “Health and Safety of
Women Workers.”
Deutsch said because little
research information has been
collected about women in labor
unions in Oregon, a research
project on the subject currently
is underway and its findings will
be published in a booklet and
distributed at the conference.

He said the conference is
designed for union staff
members, local officers and for
rank-and-file union members.

The clinic is located in the
south wing of the Salem Labor
Center, 3814 Commercial Street
SE.

The clinic is open from 11
a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through

MEDFORD - Jackson County
currently
has
two
classifications with different
rates of pay for inside welders
and outside welders.
When the outside welder
retired, Trent Rosencrans, an
inside welder, took over the
duties of the position for over a
year without receiving the
additional pay he was entitled
to. Rosencrans came to his
OSEA Job Representative
George Adams to file a
grievance. An earlier talk with
his immediate supervisor had
done no good.
Adams handled the grievance
through the level of the
Grievance Board, a man
agement-labor group which
is the next to the last step in the
procedure. The board agreed
with Rosencrans that he in fact
was doing the work of the
outside welder and should be
paid at that level. His pay will
be retroactive to Jan. 1, 1978.
Had the decision of the
Grievance Board not been
satisfactory, Rosencrans could
have appealed to the county
commission.
