December, 1970 The OSEA News Page 2 3 5 Awarded 'Employee of the Year' Certificates Chapter Employe of the Year certificates w ill be awarded to 35 state employes throughout Oregon in the first phase of OSEA's program to select a State Employe of the Year for 1970. The certificates, signed by Gov. Tom M cC all, OSEA President Chalmers Jones and local chapter presidents, will be sent to chapters for presentation to recipients later this month. The program was begun three years ago by OSEA's Public Relations Committee. Awards are made on three levels: chapter, district and state. A fte r selection by . local chapters, employes compete for District Employe of the Year awards. One recipient w ill be chosen in each of the association's nine districts. The State Employe of the Year w ill be selected from among the nine d is tric t awardees. He w ill be named at OSEA's awards banquet in Salem on Jan. 16. Both d is tric t and state recipients w ill be chosen by panels of non-state employe judges. Membership in OSEA is not required to be nominated or selected for an award at any level. The 1967 State Employe of the Year was Mrs. Martha Collins, an accounting clerk at the University of Oregon. She was sponsored by Emerald Chapter 88 in Eugene. w as presented to M rs . Isabel H a ll, In 1 96 8 th e a w a rd principal of Robert S. Farrell High School at Hillcrest School for Girls. She was sponsored by Hillcrest Chapter 70 in Salem. Last year George Katagiri, a science education specialist for the Board of Education, was named recipient of the state award. He was sponsored by Putnam-Stephens Chapter 23 in Salem.
