Carson - - - - - - - - - - - - General Counsel CENTENNIAL EVENTS SCHEDULED . . . • • • • • • • • • A one-day Umatilla county pageant in May, utilizing 10,000 school children at the Pendleton Round-Up Grounds. A state-wide pony express run from June 7-10 and weekly through the summer to carry souvenir centennial mail throughout Oregon, using members of mounted posses and riding clubs. A full-scale replica of the ship “Morning Star,” originally built in 1854, will be reconstructed in Tillamook and sailed up the Columbia river to the exposition site. A train of 10 covered wagons is slated to depart Independence, Missouri, on April 15, following the Old Oregon trail, arriving in Oregon in early August. Creation of a, Fort Dalles cavalry troop, outfitted in mid-19th century U.S. Army uniforms, to act as a welcoming group in Wasco county. A special “birthday party” in the capitol rotunda at Salem, with Oregon’s governor greeting emissaries from the countries which laid claim to the Oregon territory at various intervals—England, France, Spain and Russia. Dedication of Fort Clatsop as a national monument, in Astoria, during the summer. Two-a-day stagecoach runs, carrying passengers between Medford and Jacksonville. A “Baltimore colony” festival near Myrtle Point, heralding the coming of Maryland pioneers to Oregon in the early I850’s. PAGE FOUR Robert R. Hollis Robert R. Hollis, member of the Board of DirectQrs, Oregon State Employees As sociation, announced recently he was re signing his position as Chief Counsel, Public Utility Commission and Assistant Attorney General, effective March I. As chairman of the OSEA Retirement Committee, Hollis has been keenly active in developing the Association’s program in this field. Under his direction, several im portant legislative bills were drawn and submitted to the 50th General Assembly which, if enacted, would greatly improve retirement benefits for State employees and their dependents. Hollis announced he is entering private law practice in Portland as an associate with William P. Ellis, an acquaintance who has had long-time practice in regulatory and governmental affairs. They plan to establish offices in the Equitable Building. It was just a year ago that the young jurist was appointed to his present posi tion, having formerly been employed as Counsel to the PUC since August, 1951. In a statement issued to The OSEA NEWS Hollis said, “Cultivation of worth while acquaintances was one of the ad vantages of membership in OSEA that was of particular interest to me. I have been a member of the Association since 1951. Born 32 years ago in Carnegie, Okla homa, Hollis moved to the Beaver State where he attended University of Oregon. Before his graduation in 1951, he married his charming wife, Leona. They have two girls, Victoria, age 6, and Julia, 5. Also, they have a boy, Brian, age 3. He is a member of the Oregon State Bar, the Oregon. Department of Justice Bar, the Marion County Bar, the Bar of the United States Supreme Court and was admitted to practice before the Interstate Commerce Commission and various Fed eral agencies.
