State Employees Get Assistance State and other civil service employees throughout Oregon are relying more and more upon their local credit unions for borrowing or , saving money. This is the concensus of OSEA members who were asked, “Who do you consult with when borrowing or saving money?” Besides finding credit unions more con venient and economical when buying auto mobiles, appliances or other commodities, employees are attracted by substantial divi dends paid on their shares. Recently reporting a gain in assets was the Clacko Credit Union in Oregon City. Only 18 months old, they now have over $70,000 available to members who wish to borrow. They recently voted a 4 per cent dividend on shares, or savings,' of mem bers as of December 31. Directors of the Clacko Union recently announced they are available for speaking engagements at OSEA chapters located in Washington, Multnomah or Clackamas counties. One of their spokesmen said, “We would like the opportunity to show State employees how much more they can save in borrow ing from the credit union/’ During its 22 years in existence, the State Employees Credit Union, in Salem, has loaned in excess of $1,800,000, and has nev,er failed to pay an annual dividend to its shareholders. The Credit Union was established} in 1936 by 33 state employees, Each of the original members contributed $5 to give a beginning capital of $165. Today, the Credit Union is a sound, growing financial institution with a thousand active members, and cap ital in excess of $250,000. ? Most credit unions are providing a Loan Protectioh Insurance coverage, without cost to the borrower, which clears the unpaid balance of a loan in the event of his death.
