WILLIAM F. WEST
OSEA Insurance
Representative
William F. West, “Bill” to you, came
to California-Western States Life In
surance company and OSEA from the
State Accident Commission where he
was a member of the SIAC Chapter
No. 20. He is well grounded in OSEA
and is a good booster for the organi
zation.
Bill is on the payroll of the Cali
fornia-Western States Life Insurance
company but works under the full di
rection of the OSEA headquarters of-?
fice. He came to work on September
first and, after a week’s training by
the veteran insurance man of Cal-
West, Paul Kluckhohn, went out on
his own.
Bill and Gene Schmidt will work
closely together in making employees
acquainted with group life insurance
and OSEA.
Bill was born in Portland, Oregon,
on April 17, 1916. However, he attend
ed grade school in Salem and gradu-
ated from Salem high school. He had
two years of . pre-medical schooling at
San Mateo, California, then joined the
army. Bill tried it all—3 years in the
army and a 3-year hitch in the navy,

Pulling out the block which holds
thè log on the back is an operation
common to Oregon loggers and one
preparatory to the “big splash” which
occurs as the load hits the water in
pond or river. This photo was taken
in Benton county, O r e g o n , near
Corvallis.
Baseball Night
The Baseball Committee who was
in charge of the State Employees spon
sored Baseball Night at Waters Park
in Salem on Friday, July 27, was ex-
ceptionally well pleased with the
splendid spirit of cooperation accorded
them by the members of OSEA. The
night was a “howling” success as far
as the Baseball Committee and the
Salem Baseball Club were concerned.
The State Employees Night at the
“OF Apple Orchard” was the third
largest attended game of the 4|951
baseball season. Approximately 4,350
attended, according to the final count.
The sponsorship of this special night
by the Oregon State Employees As
sociation was a fine piece of public
relations work and was well accepted
by thé citizens of Salem. Without a
doubt, the prestige of OSEA received
a tremendous boost as a result of some
hard work on the part of the District
#2 Baseball Committee and their help
ers. More power to such employees
as “Ike” Southwick, Joe Wilson, Wes
Zellner, Eldon Cone, Wayne Straw,
Don Parker, Jim Banks, John Kelly,
Esther Patrick, Shirley Armstrong and
Bob Ashby.
