Now Is the Time
By ROBERT M. ASHBY
OSEA President
Although the weather has not been
indicative that the fall season is upon
us, a quick glance at the calendar
would promptly reveal that October
is n e a r at 'hand. You’re right!
What possible bearing could the fore
going soliloquy have on your present
state of being? Actually the answer is
simple but believe me, it’s vitally im
portant to all members of OS.E.A.
Here is the way it looks to your State
President.
Summer is waning and with its pas
sing vacations are rapidly drawing to
a close. Undoubtedly we all regret the
passage of such pleasant and happy
times but like all good things an end
must inevitably come. In the instance
of state employees, however, we all
should be refreshed from our time off
from work, and particularly so in
those many casés where a longer peri
od of vacation was enjoyed, thanks to
efforts of your own O S.E.A.
NOW IS THE TIME, therefore, to
settle down and really go to work in
behalf of your association. Winter ac
tivities are fast taking shape. You
hear; conversations al®L' around you
about f o r t h c o m i n g events being
planned by all the chapters of O.S.E.A.
You can’t escape feeling the spirit of
expectancy that permeates the air if
you are at all young in spirit and rar
ing to go- If this feeling hasn’t as yet
gripped you, don’t become alarmed
but rather plan on attending the next
meeting of y out chapter and jump
into the spirit of things with both feet.
You not only will enjoy ah invigorat
ing experience but you w,ill be person
ally overwhelmed by the feeling of
satisfaction which will engulf you
when you realize you are actually
participating in the activities of your
own organization. Action, not lip ser
vice is the key to success of our as-
sociation. All members of O.S.E.A.
should take it upon themselves to find
a job or activity within the organiza
tion which is suitable to their par
ticular liking and then apply their en
ergy with vim and Vitality. Such a
state of utopia would, naturally, result
in a spontaneous increase in member
ship that, would be astounding and
gratifying. Actually this is not wishful
thinking, but is within the realm of
possibility; therefore, pledge your
selves to drop the cloak of compla
cency and seek out the officers of your
chapter with the full intention of pro
mising them your complete support and
assistance.
NOW IS THE TIME to go to work
for yourself and the association.
NOW IS THE TIME to interest and
sign up new members.
NOW IS THE TIME to help your
own chapter by contributing construc
tive criticism if you feel such to be
needed-
NOW IS THE TIME to offer sug
gestions to your chapter officers which
would materially assist them in mak
ing the chapter meetings more enjoy
able, more serviceable, and thus in
crease attendance.
NOW IS THE TUVtE for me to shut
up so you can put into practice the
suggestions I have offered to improve
your affiliations with O.S.E.A.
