News From The Chapters
DISTRICT 1
By Jack Norton
Two meetings of the district presi
dents were held and i^Bdentally very
well attended on February 15, 1950,
and March 22, 1950. The latter meet
ing was a luncheon at the Nortonia
Hotel’s Reflection room and attended
by the presidents, or their representa
tives, of Chapters 5, 17, 30, 31, 34, 41
and 44. In all, Sixteen members were
present, including Mr. Forrest Stew
art, executivelsecretary, and Mr. Gene
Schmidt, his assistant. Thi^fgroupv of
people impressed the#‘S t r ic t director
as energetic and capable members who
are certainly on the ball as far as
keeping their'individual chapters up-
to-date. It -is- planned that? the chap
ter presidents’ organization of District
No. 1 be continued, ^ ^ p t informa
tion and problems can be discussed and
possible solutions found from sugges
tions by other chapters who have ngjag
the same problems.
At this last meeting, membership,
laws and legislation, insurance, and
the new O.S.E.A. pins were discussed.
The /chapter p r e s i d e s wer^ ^ v en
their Issue of the ’ new pins by Mr.
¡Schmidt. Every member of ^ S .E.A.
should have gjjaj of these pins, not
only because they are good looking,
but also because they sm m be proud
to wear them. I
The next meeting will be held some
time in the middle ojajApriT and it is
hoped that all of the chapters will be
represented. It might be of some in
terest to the other districts to know
that the chapters of District No. 1
are each appointing a publicity chair-

of the state™mployee’s magazine.
Each chapter has also appointed a
membership chairman who -i^| charged
with getting- new members, so that
this district will be able to meet its
quotas. Chapters 30 and 34 have al
ready met<their quotas, and Don Stow
and Ida Humphreys are to be con
gratulated. The other chapters gen
erally believelphat they cannot only
reach their quotas, but exceed them,
a very gratifying feeling.
All in all, this would appear to have
the makings of an extremely good
year insofar as the O.S.E.A. is con
cerned in Dis wet" No. 1.
