M any V eterans W ork fo r State
T here w ere 3,025 m ale w ar veterans
em ployed by the state in positions for
w hich th e Civil Service m aintains p er-
sonnel records as of M arch 1, 1950, a
file count revealed. W ar veterans com ­
pose 41 p er cent of the m ale w orking
force. T here are 124 fem ale w a r v et­
erans, m aking the total num ber of
v eteran s 3,149. T here are 7,398 m ales
and 4,990 fem ales in the CSC files>
W ar v eteran s account for 26 per cent
of th e total.
E xam ination T abulation
D uring the first six m onths of the
cu rren t fiscal y ear (Ju ly 1 to Decem­
ber 31, 1949), th e civil serviqe exam ­
in atio n section received applications
from 4,748 persons. T h irty -th re e ap ­
plications w ere rejected, 860 failed to
ap p e ar for the exam inations, 1,309
w ere elim inated, 3 w ithdrew during
th e exam inations, a W » 2.543 w e r e
placfed on eligible lists as a re su lt of
thegexam inations. B oth open continu­
ous and scheduled exam inations are
included in th e tabulation.
News L etter Issued
A new publication entitled “Civil
Service News L etter” is to be d istrib ­
uted to all state employees. The letter
w ill be p jjb W ied periodically and w ill
discuss in te rp re ta tiS H a f the ru le M M B
regula tions and answ er at length thé
most frequently asked questions con­
cerning civil service policies.

Two proposed rule changes w ill be
