received calls from a rep resen tativ e of th e
A m erican C ancer Society w anting to know
if we w ould cooperate w ith them in dis
trib u tin g inform ation and educational leaf
lets to th e m em bers and asking th a t we
tak e p a rt in th e drives fo r funds. Also r e
ceived inquiries from th e Red Cross con
cerning particip atio n in fu n d raising and
blood donor recru itm en ts.
Mr. S h attuck said it appeared to him th a t
on com m unity p articipation on a local
level, it w ould have to be handled by the
chapters; b u t on stattw ide participation, he
did not see w hy he could not investigate
th e possibilities.
Mr. W ilson m oved th a t this be referred
to th e public relations d ire c to r for his study
and an y action he deem ed necessary. Mo

Mr. Chidsey stated th a t had to do w ith
th e council vote to increase the n u m b er of
m agazines to six a y ear instead of fo u r as
published previously, and to p u t out th e
bulletin on a lte rn a te m onths. This included
an additional b u lle tin to be p u t out w hen
som ebody saw fit.
Mr. V aughn said th a t w hat Roseburg
w anted was m ore inform ation each m onth.
They felt th e d istrict needed it and felt th e
lack of it, good or bad. T hey w anted som e
thing like th e new s le tte r w hich used to be
published.
Mr. O’Neil said th e re are tim es w hen th e
chapters need to know confidential in fo r
m ation and th a t should be handled by
special and p riv a te lette rs sent to chapters
individually. It w as th a t ty p e of inform a
tion refe rre d to r a th e r th a n the news b ulle
tin and m agazine.
Mr. W ilson said h e w ould like to see the
com m ittees keep in touch w ith Mr. S tew art
and have him no tify th e chapters w hen the
com m ittees have m et an dtlaked w ith so
and so and done such and such. The chap
ters w an t to know w h at is going on.

Mr. Q uery said he h ad h e a rd th a t com
m ent m ade fo r years. T he m em bership is
very m uch in te rested in w h a t th e executive
office and board a re doing. Resolutions are
passed b u t no p rogram has been form ulated
for keeping th e m em bership inform ed about
w hat happens afterw ard s. Som ething is r e
ferred to som ebody an d it is done and no
body know s about it. H ow ever, w ith such
a set up as th is a little b ro ad e r com m ittee
will autom atically be set up and can give
the m em bership a resum e of w h at is be
ing done. E ach m o n th th e m em bers can
check up an d see w h a t has been done.

fending th e Civil Service Act, in th e
interests of fa ir and im p artial adm in
istration; th a t it lend its sup p o rt to
th e friends of th e Act, and th a t it aid
and I assist in th e education and disci
plining of those who neglect or fail to
cooperate in m aking th e A ct serve its
tru e purpose of fu rth e rin g th e general
w elfare of state and em ployee.
Mr. Chidsey said th a t certain dep artm en t
heads and certain departm ents h av e b y
passed th e in te n t of th e civil service law.
He said h e had h eard of instances w here
th is had been done in th e highw ay d e p a rt
m ent. His staff is extrem ely conscious of
th e civil service law and th ey are p retty
tough on it. T hey have a v ery fine person
nel m an in th e ir departm ent.
Mr. B ran d t m oved th a t th e in te n t of CS 2
and 5 be adopted as policy to be continued
and brought to the definite atten tio n of all
ch ap ter officials.
