Crater Lake national park reports its
winter sports activities are on a smaller
?.se,aje than usual. The north and east
entrance roads are closed for the win­
ter, but all-year travel will continue
over the west entrance highway from
Rogue RiverSyallev and the south en-
Ik^m ^l-from the east side of the moun­
tains.
Ski clubs may bring their own port­
able tows but these must be removed at
the end of the day. The Community
house at the rim will be open on Sun­
days aO i shelter. No food or lodging
accommodations will be available, re­
stricting the park to day use entirely.
Accommodations are available at Fort
Klamath on the south and Union creek
on the west, each about 20 miles from
the park.
Visitors are urged to carry tire chains,
a shovel, and a tow rope for emergency
use. Park officials also announce no
gasoline is available in the park during
the winter.
A large parking area is available at
the rim area for skiers as well as sight­
seers who would view Oregon’s scenic
wonder under its deep mantle of white.
Sky Trail on non-federal lands, oper­
ated by Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Presley, at
the summit of the Siskiyou mmmfains
Louth of Ashland is another of Oregon’s
more recently developed areas. A thick
f o ^ ^ ^ B y cleared to create a ski run
HO feet wide and 2,200 .feet long, de­
clared ideal for all types of skiers. A
rope tow and coffee cabin a r ^ B m h le
over weekends and holidays. A special
ski and sled run for children has also
been constructed.
The B g i Trail season usually begins
Christmas' day and continues until
March. Night skiing with lights, is
available to groups. A large parking
area on state highway property on U.S.
