Editor’s Comment— The purpose of
OSEA existence*; and actions is to pro­
mote the welfare of the State and its
employees. Our aims and methods have
resulted in better wages and hours for
every employee of the State and have
given ad m in istrato r of public service/
more valuable tools with which the ser­
vice may be further improved to the
benefit W the State. We have carried the
burden of all State employees’ problems
since our inception in 1943, and with
marked suc| e | | | We are aware of the
existence of many inequitie«in Civil
Service Classification wage schedules
and have constantly pressed for correc­
tion thereof in every case. As the mem­
bers of this new engineering association
are also members in good standing of
the OSEA, the editor is sympathetic to
their problems and feels that their in­
dependent activities on behalf of their
own problems can be fitted into the
many activities that the OSEA now un­
dertakes in helping solve similar prob­
lems for all classified service employees
of the State.
Whenever I think of all the wonder­
ful things I could be doing, if I didn’t
have a job, I quickly remind myself of
all the wonderful things I’d be without,
H didn’t have a job.

Dreams do come true! Betty Dotson,
o n -leave employee from the Oregon
State Library staff realized her dream
by hard work,Wfcareful planning and by
seizing a golden opportunity. She is at­
tending Columbia University and living
at; International House on Riverside
Drive in New York City. A fellow em­
ployee of the State Library, visiting in
New York^jbity, called on Betty and
reports her gtarry-eyed, full of pep and
very chic.”
Bettyjs, I classes are in radio produc­
tion, radio speech and’ writing and ma­
gazine writing.. She toured Radio City
as one of her field trips. Betty is also?
working part time at the Mott Hayen
