It was asked whether anything had
been done about reorganizing^ the For
estry Chapter and Mr- Stewart reported
that nothing so far had been done as
he had not had time-.
Duties of Executive Secretary Discussed
I Mr. Chidsey offered two suggestions.
One dealt' with the fact that the As-
soçiation had placed 3 heavy load on
th e f executive... secretary’s shoulders in
the way of propositions o n , which ac
tion tyas expected and there had been
aÉ^ót, of ^criticism in the papers on I thè
fact that the consensus /o f opinion ’has
been the secretary. did not do the work
lined out for him. The facts | are that
the I program lined .put for him would
take his full - time and yet he I is ^ 3
pected to spend 50 to ^75 per ceht* of
his time doing clerical, work in the of
fice. : During the first .year of the or
ganization there was no executive sec-re-,
tary and the work was done, some of
it with 'voluntary labor, and everybo, dyj
worked. The suggestion was made that
the Association ask^for more voluntary;
time. There are times when there are;
A gréât many letters and much -clerical
work. There are stenographers who are
membqrs,and“ there should be softie’plan
worked out - in the various chapters' so
the girls can ,volunteer'a night a week
or a month to assist in t his, work. Mr.
Chidsey? suggested a committee in each
chapter-sô th a t,if the headquarterH of-,
fice needed help they could call on the
volunteers. Some members will: remem
ber a lot of midnight oil burned^ where
now everything is'-turned over to Mr.;
Stewart and he is expected to do all
the work,* sell insurance/ get new mem
bers and everything else.
The other suggestion of Mr. Chiçjsey
had to do with the chapters in Salem*
expecting Mr. Stewart to attend all
their meetings or they feel slighted. If
he attends one meeting a year ,in the
outside chapters' they feel favored,; He
does not work for just the chapters in
Salem; he, works, for all the chapters in
the state.
President W hite asked how it would
be if he' told the lo©|l‘ chapters not to
call on Mr.: Stewart any -nib're' than
necessary?
M r.! Stewart assured the,4 board that
he was very happy to attend any meet
ing he could and he wanted to attend
as many as possible. I
Mr. R. M. Smith said he believed
that in the newspaper reports Mr.
Stewart’s name should be mentioned
more often, then people would know
what he is. doing.’ They will realize
