O U R JOBS
Everyone who is employed in some
useful public or private service should
occasionally, and in all seriousness, ask
himself this question, "W hat am I get
ting out o f my job?”
Surely we can agree that the accept
ance of a job or position carries with it
certain definite responsibilities. First
and foremost is loyalty— loyalty to our
superiors, our associates, and to the
program of which we are a part. Sec
ondly, and no less important, is a
wholesome respect for the value of
truth. The application of these prin
ciples, loyalty and truthj mean that
we are also loyal to ourselves and to
our jobs.
There are those who apparently make
no effort to think out possibly better
ways of doing that which to them
seems a familiar and routine task, and
the result is that such employees find
themselves doing the same old task
year after year, never to advance or
be of value beyond a limited degree.
If this type of employee would apply
the principles of truth and loyalty, and
do sòme serious thinking as to how his
work might be improved, it would bring
him both satisfaction and prestige and
would help materially in adding to the
strength of the progfam he represents.
Practice is doing a thing-over and
over again, but resu ltia te gained by
intelligently studying the outcome and
applying to future practice the lessons
learned. We exist merely in a state of
coma unless we be of service to man
kind, of use to our community, and of
increasing value to the organization of
which we are a part.
