The annual meeting of the chapter,
held earlier this year at the Dairy Co-op
hall in Salem, was the fiij?t gàia occa­
sion for this group. A potluck dinner
in which wives and husbands of mem­
bers also participated was the highlight.
Special guests Were Director E. L. Peter­
son of the, department, who always has
a fine word to say for O.S.E.A.; A ttor­
ney Leo Smith of O.S.É.Á.; and Jean
Brimacombe (a former department em­
ployee) of the O.S.E.A. office. Each
talked briefly.
The election of officers found Hugh
Taylor, assistant chief of the division
of plant industry, named president; O.
K. Beals? chief of the division of foods
and dairies and weights and measures,
vice-president; and Hilda Bartels, sec­
retary to the chief of the plant division,
secretary-treasurer.

Just in Case you’ve forgotten who
heads this new chapter in the Portland
area, we’re going to list the officers for
you again. They are: Jack Norton,
president; Genevieve Kirtley, vice-presi­
dent; Jane Hermann^ secretary; and
Ida Humphries, treasurer. Most of the
officers and membership come from the
unemployment compensation commis­
sion and the state employment service.
Another topic of conversation preva­
lent these days has to do with vacations.
Inasmuch as the new unemployment
compensation law goes into effect in
