ference o f women union leaders, which
was held in Washington. Its members
came from various parts of the coun
try,, including those affiliated with the
A.F. of L. or the C.I.Q. or independ
ent organizations. \
The theme of this conference was a
positive program of action, for éliminé
ating discriminations. The Secretary of
Labor, in speaking to. the conference,
stated: " I think the time is ripe for
progress in this field.” Explaining two
reasons for this opinion, he coh tinned:
"First, there has beén so récent a dem
onstration during the war of the capa
bilities of women in industry; the other
reason is, this happens to be a time
when employers want to get employees.”
A general policy stressed throughout
the conference was that, while its mem
bers wished to be as helpful as possible
in work to improve the wages and con
ditions of work for both rnen and wo
