PAY ,PLAN FOR STATE
EMPLOYEES APPROVED
Straight-time average hourly earn­
ings for a selected .group of industrial
chemical plants- were revealed to be
highest in the Pacific and Border States/
This fact was published by the Bureau^
of Labor Statistics which surveyed 25 5
plants employing 64,340 workers. These
plants, represented about three-fifths of
all plants with 8 or more workers and
more than two-thirds of total employ-
ment in ¿his branch of the chemical
industries.
The' Pacific coast high exceeded the
Southeast, lowest wage' region, by moré
than 50 percent. The Great Lakes and
Southwest' were slightly, above the na­
tional overage of*’ $1.14, whereas the
Middle Atlantic and New England
States were below* ■ One out of three
workers in the Southeast earned less
than 65c on hour in contrast with 1
out of 40 in the Southwest and- less

The revised pay plan to apply to
Oregon Epate employees has been pre­
pared by the Civil Service Commission
and submitted to Governor Snell. The
Governor has approved of the plan arid
the salaries provided will become effec­
tive "when funds are made available by
legislative appropriations; I
