ROLLING ALONG
From HOW ARD ROBERTS
It seems that H arry Hoxie, Highway
Department rollerman, while working
at Sutherlin last summer, was stopped
on the job one day by a local school
teacher. She had a sad story 'to relate
about a man she knew "who was ran
over by a man w ith a roller. Some of
the other crewmen picked up the poor
fellow and took him home. Arriving
at the house, they found the door
locked. Being in a hurry they just
slipped the man under the door and
departed.” ,
Could it be that Harry had acci
dentally nipped the heels of said
"school-marm” with his roller?
EXPAND PLAN
James F. Welsh of McCormick &
Co., Inc., Baltimore, is quoted as say
ing: "A pension plati might be a.
boomerang with employers if not ac
companied by supplementary items in
a ‘human relations’ program as: pay
structure providing living income and
merit increases, paid vacations and
holidays, g profit-sharing bonus, rest
periods away from machines, group
life insurance, sick benefit plan, hos
pitalization. A pension plan atone won’t
attract workers.”
