5-DAY WEEK CITY’S PLAN
{Oregonian, 11-13-46)
All city employees except police,
firemen and emergency crews prob
ably will start working a five-day
week on January 1, it was agreed by
the council in conference Tuesday.
City Attorney L. E. Latourette will
be asked to draft an ordinance cutting
the working hours to 40 (they now
work 44 and are paid for 48) and ar
ranging that skeleton crews shall keep
essential offices open Saturday morn
ings as at present. Those employees who
work Saturday morning will get an
equal amount of time off some other
day.
DELEGATES BANQUET
Eighty-eight delegates to the Gen
eral Council, Q.S.E.A. members, wives
and friends attended the Oregon State
Employees Association banquet at the
Marion Hotel in Salem, the evening of
Sunday, November 10.
Dr. Ivan R. Lovell of Willamette
University was the guest speaker. Dr.
Lovell spoke on the "Bill of Rights of
the Constitution of the United States.”
The subject was timely and educational
and was presented in a highly interesting
manner. The Association is indeed grate
ful to Dr. Lovell.
Forrest Cooper of the Bend Chapter
was the master of ceremonies. Mr. Coo
per with his ready wit and a few choice
stories kept the guests in a gay spirit.
Table decorations were under the
direction of Florence Ames and Esther
Hilmer of the Capitol Chapter. The
decorations were in keeping with the
season and a delight to behold. They
played a large part in making the ban
quet a success.
The social hour was very ably han
dled by Johnny Graham of the Salem
Chapter and Boyd D. Babbitt of the
O.S.P.D. Chapter.
