LIBRARY CHAPTER No. 23
By this time no doubt nearly every
one has had his vacation and is full of
vigor and enthusiasm. Not so with your
correspondent, however, as she already
happens to be looking forward to next
year’s vacation with much gusto. While
on that subject, here are a few high
lights of who has been where the past
summer and also who has left our group
for other fields.
State Library
Esther Barnes resigned the middle of
August, when she was married to Dr.
C. A. Downs of this city.
Caroline Jakubec resigned the latter
part of July to enter the Order of
Benedictines at Mt. Angel.
Betty Dotson, Barbara Ortman, Mary
Keefer, Sylvia Mattson, and Marcia Hill
spent a few days at Hood River, dur
ing which time they hiked around Lost
Lake.
Agnes Shields, Mary Keefer, and
Loretta Fisher attended the Pacific
Northwest Library association meeting
at Vancouver, B. C.
Vocational Department
Calvin Kent and family made quite
an extensive motor trip, which took
them to Salt Lake City, Yellowstone
Park, Kansas, and way points.
Veterans* Administration
Al J. Crose made an 8,000 mile trip
(pleasure and business) which included
Chicago, Niagara Falls, New York City
and Washington, D.C., returning to
Oregon via the central route. Some
time was spent in Philadelphia attend
ing the Lion’s convention, of which Mr.
Crose was district governor.
State Department of Education
D. A. Emerson spent some time in
Washington, D.C., attending a meeting
of the National Planning Committee of
the National Council of Chief State
School Officers.
Florence E. Beardsley attended the
National Education association meeting
in Buffalo, N.Y., as a representative of
the State Department of Education and
