The entertainment committee fell
'"by the wayside this time, but we did
have a good feed put on by Parkdale.
The main dish was baked beans, which
were perfection plus.
The main activity in this neck of
the woods is patching, then more
patching. A rt Burt’s oil crew sprayed
a spot or two for Maupin and D ufur
sections.
J. E. Peck (a prospective member?)
has been spending quite a bit of his
liesure time lately in the vicinity of
Tygh Valley, where he is suspected of
opening the trout season a few days
before the game commission’s approv
al, which procedure is very embarras
sing to his very dear friend, Mr. Dow,
^■fche game warden in that vicinity.
l^ ^ D o w : I always blamed those large
Dolly Vardens for getting all the
three and four-inch trout in Tygh
Creek, but now I know where they
have been going.)
Our June 22 meeting was quite an
affair. We started the ball rolling with
a dinner prepared by Mrs. Hinkle and
helpers of The Dalles, which was en
joyed by some 59 souls. A singing bee
followed, with Mrs. Slaybaugh as lead
er, and Mrs. Stratton playing the piano.
Believe it or not, we were in fine voice.
Charlie Slaybaugh, M.C., introduced
the speakers of the evening—Floyd
Query, state president, O.S.E.A., and
Forrest Stewart, executive secretary,
O.S.E.A., who gave very interesting
talks. They left themselves wide open,
when they agreed to try and answer all
questions. Along about the fourth
round, Floyd was on the ropes. Any
way, we had a good time and hope to
have Floyd and Forrest with us again.
If you w ant to see a human being
give a good imitation of a contented
cat purring, just set a bait of baked
beans in front of Forrest Stewart.
Gus Weigelt of Weigelt Brothers
Book and Stationery Store, The Dalles,
gave a sleight of hand performance
with playing cards, which was enjoyed
by all.
A short business session was held,
mainly election of officers. Harvey
McClain was re-elected president, and
L o w e l l Stratton, secretary-treasurer.
Paul Stout, Parkdale ,was elected vice
president.
