Loren Weber of the Myrtle Creek
engineering party, was recently ‘spliced’
in Roseburg. Congratulations from all
the chapter, Loren, but doesn’t this
sort of thing usually call for cigars?
Scotty Watson returned from a re­
cent band playing trip to Baker, quite
red-eyed. He, of course, maintains that
it was all from loss of sleep.
George Householder, helper at Rose­
burg, applied at the last meeting for
relief from his duties on the refresh­
ment committee. W ith the chapter pic­
nic in the planning stage, and George
being such a good supply sergeant,
having done such a swell job in the
past, his motion kind of got sidetrack­
ed. Too bad, George, but you can’t ex­
pect the fellows to vote against their
stomachs.

BEND CHAPTER No. 3
Wages, salaries, and more of the
same was a topic which produced a
sharp discussion at a special m eetin^h
June 22. Departure of new employ ea^
for more lucrative positions was re­
ported as especially heavy, w ith a num ­
ber of older ones giving up the strug­
gle. Forrest Cooper, District Director,
reported action by the Board of Direc­
tors and was given an overwhelming
vote of support. A survey initiated at
the meeting may now be reported as a
large majority of employees depending
upon some form of outside help (other
than state pay) to maintain their stan­
dard of living. Retirement provisions
and civil service received question and
answer treatment.
Willard "C urly” Cottingham, Bend,
slipped on a rock while fishing and was
painfully injured. Happily, his influ­
ence in the community appears u n A
dimmed.
O ur secretary, Marguerite Elder,
purportedly returned from being an in­
terested La Grande observer, indicates
